Letitia Sweitzer

From a post written June 12, 2008, by Peter Hardy:

“More recently we’ve taken a new approach — getting the playwright together with a group of actors, in a private setting, to read and discuss a play. A great deal of care goes into the selection of the actors for these readings — I think that the wrong group of actors can do a playwright more harm than good, leading them to think something’s wrong with the play…But when the right actors — not just talented, but well-cast — are reading a script,

All of you!

Thanks to everyone who came out last night to UncleMaddio’s in Toco Hills to celebrate with us. Here are some photos from the evening. We have some pretty amazing friends,

What makes Essential essential? What our playwrights have to say

We’ve made it 1/3 of the way to our goal with exactly two weeks to go in our power2give campaign: http://power2give.org/go/p/8445
Make your donation today, and join us tonight at Uncle Maddio’s Pizza Joint Toco Hills to celebrate, and a percentage of their sales will be donated back to Essential!

While you’re there, lend your own voice at our video booth by answering the question “What makes Essential essential to you?” Here are some responses our playwrights have shared over the years:

Valetta Anderson: “The Essential Theatre was the essential ingredient in furthering my career as a playwright and expanding my voice into film by providing the one thing that is missing from most new play’s development process,

Celebrity Chef Peter Hardy!

From SWIMMING WITH JELLYFISH:
“I used to come home and your mother, she would be so happy, like she was waiting all day for the moment I walked through the door….And we would laugh and laugh. I mean there is nothing better than laughing with your mother. And we would sit on the living room floor eating pizza out of a box. It was sloppy and unfocused…but it was brilliant.”
“What happens now? What happens now is that I stay. I stay and try to find my way back to the pizza in the box.”
